Next year will bring continued job growth in the Wichita market, despite the national economic downturn, according to the Wichita State University Center for Economic Development and Business Research.

The group’s annual economic forecast, released Tuesday, predicts 6,095 new jobs for 2009.

Wichita will see “modest broad-based expansion” in the local economy as the city’s aircraft manufacturing companies continue to work through their order backlogs and as the local housing market remains stable, said Rob Allison, interim director of CEDBR, during its economic summit at the Hyatt Regency Wichita. Most sectors will continue to see job growth, he said.

Allison said the national financial crisis that has gripped the nation during the past two weeks has “not significantly spilled over into our local economy.”
